The Family Feud scoreboard is deceptively simple: reveal answers, bank points, highest total wins. But the details — multipliers, steals, Fast Money — are where most home games fall apart into arguments.

Where the points come from
Every answer on the board is worth the number of people who gave it in a survey of 100 respondents. So a board might look like:

Board total: 97. The remaining 3 went to answers that did not make the top five.
A team that clears that whole board banks 97 points for the round. Answers do not need to add to exactly 100 — real surveys never do.
Round multipliers
This is the part most home games forget, and it is the part that makes the game exciting.
- Round 1 — single points
- Round 2 — single or double
- Round 3 — double points
- Round 4 — triple points
A 90-point board in round 4 is worth 270. That means a team down by 200 is still one good round from winning. Never end the game on a single-point round — you will drain all the tension out of the finish.

Strikes and the steal
Strikes do not subtract points. They only end a turn.
- Three wrong answers = three strikes = the controlling team's turn is over.
- The opposing team huddles and gives one answer.
- Hit any remaining board answer and they take the entire round's banked points.
- Miss and the original team keeps everything.
This is the single biggest scoring swing in the game. A team can lose 200 points on one bad guess.
Fast Money scoring
The finale uses a different scale:
- Two players, five questions each.
- Player one has 20 seconds. Player two has 25 and cannot repeat player one's answers.
- Each answer scores its survey value.
- Combined target: 200 points.
Hitting 200 is the win condition. Anything under is a loss regardless of the main game score, if you run Fast Money as a bonus round.
Why a live digital scoreboard beats paper
Running scores by hand means:
- Somebody has to multiply 87 by 3 while eight people wait.
- Points get missed during the excitement of a steal.
- Nobody can see the running total, so the drama disappears.
